Helping Haiti Victims
Debora Forsythe forwarded me the following information on how we can help victims of the Haiti earthquake:
We've all heard the devastating news -- Haiti, already the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, was struck two days ago by one of its worst natural disasters in the last 200 years. A 7.0-magnitude earthquake shocked Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas on Tuesday just before 5 p.m., collapsing buildings and cutting water and electricity services. At least 3 million people have been affected and untold thousands have died.
Harding Academy is not a disaster relief organization. However, as people of faith and compassion, surely our hearts are moved to want to help. That's why today I'm sharing ways that you, our faculty, staff, and parents can contribute straight to the relief efforts of one of the organizations that is currently responding directly to the situation in Haiti. Our donations will provide emergency medical care, food, shelter, medicine, blankets and clean drinking water to those suffering from the quake's destruction.
There are numerous organizations, including the International Red Cross, who are seeking assistance to respond. If you would like to assist through one of the known organizations sponsored by the churches of Christ, please click here to visit The Christian Chronicle website to learn more about how you can help and the connections to organizations that are mobilizing to assist the people of Haiti. Time is of the essence as people are suffering hourly in Haiti.
Please pray mightily for the people of Haiti whose lives have been so tragically and permanently impacted by the events of the last 48 hours.
Together, we can make a difference.

Opportunity--Karate Tournament
Jeff Hartman is working with others to put on a karate tournament in late February for kids in Memphis, many of which are under priviliged. We are seeking sponsors or donors to support the tournament and help with the cost so that the entry fee can be minimized to allow as many kids to participate as possible. Jeff says he has been amazed at the effect that martial arts training has had on Ellie and so many of the other children we work with in a regular basis -the development of self confidence and pride in accomplishment is obvious.
Please contact him if you can help. His email address is jlh33096@comcast.net.
Thanks!
Challenges from Josh Ross...
Read Phil. 3:7-11 everyday:
7But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. 10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Ask these questions:
1. What makes me come alive?
2. What is the center of my life?
3. What am I passionate about & how does this line up with Jesus' character?
4. What is my contribution in this life?
