2/23/09 Prayer Requests & Announcements

Jim Chambers........still in hospital, Teri Johnson 80 year old x-father-in-law. Been there for 4 weeks.
Dossie Shaw....Terry's mom--They had to remove half the foot. They are watching it closely to see if more will have to be amputated. Now, she has high fever they can't diagnose or control. After attempts to lower the fever medicinally, they turned the A/C on full blast and iced her for 3 hours. Fever was still over 100 degrees - even after all that. Today was a day of many tests. They are trying to find the cause of the fever/infection. Not good. Mentally, she's not there at all.

Southerland family......loss of wife and mother of 4 who died unexpectantly

Grace Patterson.....recovering from liver transplant...see updates here: http://caringbridge.org/cb/viewJournal.do?method=reload&scrollPage=1&ec=28

caringbridge.org/visit/gracepatterson

Rachel is one of my second grade teammates at Shelby Oaks. There are so many facets to pray for in this situation: the donor's family, the child that had to be passed over because the intestines weren't good for that child, and Rachel's students that will find out Tuesday morning that she will not be returning for the end of the school year and their parents. Thanks, Brenda

Mr. Charles Cozzens--has MSRP staph infection. He will be receiving 6 weeks of IV antibiotics followed by surgery then 6 more weeks of IV anitbiotics and possible another surgery after that. Please pray for his recovery and all those caring for him.

Fred (Linda Booth's dad)--took a nose dive over his scooter and now has a broken leg. Please pray for his recovery and also for Linda and her family as them may need to go to Dallas to help care for him.

Mrs. Lawhon--LeAn's mom, please pray for her as she deals with losing Mr. Lawhon and also for her continued health

Jim Chambers--still in the hospital but is improving. Please pray for his recovery and his family.

Kim Smith--friend of Chris Johnson; has Stage 4 cancer...she has single cancer cells which are beginning to cluster.

William Markhart & family--Shelby County Juvenile Court did lose the contract which will leave William and many others without jobs. Please pray that William and the others will be able to be absorbed by the new company or find work elsewhere.

Joyce Bellamy--had a job interview that went well; please pray that she is called back for the job.

Johnny Forsythe family--prayers as they deal with his death this past week.

Dossie Shaw--Terry's mom, below is the latest update from Karen:
Terry called me today during service to tell me that the three doctors consulted and decided to try to perform surgery tomorrow. Two of the three arteries in her leg are completely blocked, so they are going to attempt two more stints. If in one week, blood flow has not resumed, they will have to do some amputation(s). Mrs. Shaw isn't sedated anymore, but she is still confused and agitated. Terry has decided to come home today, then we'll go back later this week if we need to.
Thanks for the prayers!
Karen

Terry Shaw's mother--urgent prayers

We have a very urgent prayer request right now regarding Terry's mother who is 86 yrs old.
As you may know, she suffers from Alzheimers and recently had a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery (Nov 2007). Well, now she's got several places of gangrene in her right foot. Terry and Rachel are there this weekend for what was supposed to be a simple surgical procedure on Friday to put another stint in her let to increase bloodflow. Well, since then, they have not been able to do the surgery and a group of doctors have decided that they must amputate on Monday. Her leg has been "frozen" in a bent position since Friday morning and nothing - not even deep sedation - has been able to get it to relax and stretch out. At this time, she's heavily sedated. This, along with the trauma and deceased bloodflow, is progressing the dementia. Right now, she knows no one at all.
Bottom line, the doctors feel an above-knee amputation is absolutely necessary on Monday and they have grave concerns about her surviving the surgery. Terry has been given Living Will forms this morning. From the research I've done, this procedure is a definite last resort and her odds are not good due to her age, heart issues, and dementia. I don't know if I'll be going there to join Terry today or not.
Just keep Terry, his mother, and his siblings in your prayers. Major changes are about to happen... and soon. Thank you.
Love,
Karen

Geller Family

We have just learned that Rachel & Emily’s other grandmother died in her sleep last night. This is the grandmother that Rachel planned to live with starting next week!! PLEASE be in prayer for this family, Debra is the mother. This same kind of thing happened to them back in 2003 when Rachel & Emily’s dad died & then 3 weeks later their mom’s father died. Emily just returned to California on Saturday. She will now return. Debra is having a VERY tough time with all of this. It just leaves Rachel’s living situation up in the air again.

Update on David and the Pound Family

I just received this update from Susan:

The Drs did test twice and David had no brain activity and was pronounced dead last night around 8PM. His body is being kept alive until both of his sons get there this morning. David wanted to donate his organs so that will take place and then they will let his body go. However that all works.Anyway, Debra had to sign an hours worth of paperwork last night. She has plenty of people with her. They will all come home when all this is done. I'll let you know.Uncle David was very special to everyone. Each kid in the family thought he was their's alone. Please pray for Debra, Anthony, & Daniel but remember the rest of our large extended family as several are having a very rough time dealing with this (my older boys as well as others). Susan Hannah

Urgent Request--DAVID POUND

Please pray for David Pound and his wife, Debra and their boys. Below are updates from Susan Hannah:

Update 1: This morning on my way to school I was called and told that Uncle David (Pound) was in the hospital in Jackson, TN. I was told that he had stopped breathing and had no pulse while Debra was driving them home last night. She called 911 and they told her how to do CPR on him. They got him to the hospital and he was too weak to be transported anywhere else.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just got off the phone with my mother-in-law who just left the hospital. Aunt Debra did have to do CRP on David to bring him back last night while the ambulance was on the way. When he got to the hospital his potassium, phosphorus, and electrolyte levels were all bad. His kidneys were poisoning him, therefore he went on dialysis right away. He is still unresponsive. Debra is there and is not very optimistic at this point.
The bright side is that they were on their way home from a GREAT weekend in Chattanooga. They really enjoyed their time there with Daniel and Anthony (who flew there). They enjoyed Daniel's play and seeing the sights of Chattanooga.
Update 2:
David is on a respirator however he has no brain activity.
I believe arrangements are being made for their boys, Daniel & Anthony, to get to Jackson.
2/1/09 Prayer Requests and Announcements
Requests:
Jim Chambers--
Trey & Todd's grandfather in Baptist ICU. Update from Teri:
Just wanted you all to know that PRAYERS WORK! Granny called right when we got home from our Life Group meeting tonight at Matt & Miranda Caskeys. "DanDan" is doing much better, is awake, coherent, and it looks like he'll be coming home. Many of you know that my son, James, is not a Christian and questions many aspects of our faith---but tonight he was humbled and in AWE because it was apparent how DanDan, James and Todd's grandfather, who by all measures, was comatose and would not be coming home, is now better. Thank you for all your prayers. I also appreciate everything you do to help my son find his way to heaven.
Emily (Carol's friend)--
Update:The latest from Emily...please keep her in your prayers.
After completing my 4th round of chemo in Houston, we met with the doctor. She said it was no longer working to shrink the tumors, and she recommended a new chemo that I can take from home in Dallas. The insurance company approved the first part, a pill form, but would not approve the second part, a weekly injection. Both my doctors, in Houston and here, say the new drug is a “place holder” which means the tumors will stay the same size. The effects of the new chemo will only last about 4-5 months. If I get too incapacitated from the effects, or if I tolerate them well, it will be in this year that they are no longer effective in fighting my cancer.
The doctors at M.D.A. are always working on the latest and greatest therapies. However, it may not be soon enough for me. Anyway, I’m starting to take my chemo today for five days, and again in a month. Then I’ll go back to Houston to get my tests and results. I’ll keep in touch in the meantime.
Ice Storm victims--remember everyone who is still without power
Pete Sisson family--
Debbie Hamilton--has had a very hard life...please keep her in your prayers
