The doctors believe she is trying to reject her new liver. Below is an excerpt from her website (www.caringbridge.org/visit/gracepatterson)
Good afternoon. We hope everyone is having a great day. I spent the night with Gracie last night. It was a little better than normal because we did not have a roommate. This morning she got one, the mom and I introduced ourselves and she is from Memphis. She is around my age, we grew up in the same area, and know some of the same people. It was really nice talking with someone from the south.
Gracie's numbers came back this morning and they are even higher than yesterday. The doctors are sure it is rejection. So, we are going to keep going in the same direction with the steroids. He said sometimes it takes 24-48 hrs for the body to respond to the steroids, but if the numbers are still going up in the morning we are going to get very aggressive with the steroids. The doctor explained that the type of rejection she has is historically more difficult to treat than other types of rejection and she may have to have her immune system wiped out again. We certainly hope not.
We left the hospital on a pass after the 12pm dose of medicine and will have to return at 6pm. Please pray for the liver numbers to come down.
Rachel
